What is ClassAct?
- ClassAct is a free Web-based email system for K-12 students,
as well as public college and university distance education
students, in Newfoundland and Labrador. It provides any student
who has Internet access with an account that can be used to send
and receive their school and personal email.
- ClassAct is ideal for students because it will allow them to use
their email from school, home or anywhere in the world that has
Internet access.
- Unlike services such as Hotmail® or
Yahoo!®, ClassAct will not have
any commercial banner ads. All of the banners displayed in
ClassAct will be for educational services, programs and
projects.
- ClassAct is a free service provided by the Centre for Distance
Learning and Innovation. ClassAct is free now and will always
be free.
- Your ClassAct account has no expiry date on it. As long as you use
your account, subject to the Terms
of Service, it will be yours.
How do I get a ClassAct account?
- Due to the tremendous number of students eligible for an account,
we will not be taking requests for accounts directly from
students.
- Students should contact either their computer instructor or
school Principal to get an application for an account. The
PDF version of the form can be downloaded from
here. The
student and the student's parent or guardian must complete
the application form and return it to the school. The school
will then forward the electronic list of student names, in
the format Lastname, Firstname with one name per line
to dalefraser@cdli.ca
- It will take a couple of business days to process this information
and import the user information into the ClassAct software.
- CDLI will then provide the school with the login name and
password for each student and the school will then pass this onto
the student.
- The signed ClassAct User Agreement Forms must remain in the
school, preferably in the student's permanent file.
